On August 8, 2009, Mound Prairie Mutual Insurance Company held its annual Milo Runningen Golf Tournament. The tournament has been held each year for the last 17 years to benefit local fire departments. This year there were 162 golfers and a total of $8,700.00 was donated to three fire departments. The three departments this year were, Nodine, Ridgeway and Wilson. To date, the event has raised a total of $104,755.00 for 19 area volunteer fire departments.
The Runningen family has donated $1,000.00 each year for the last 10 years in memory of Milo, whom the tournament is named after. This year Mike and Marsha Ryan again donated $500.00 in memory of Dan Thicke and Wendy “Ryan” Thicke. Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company also has made a contribution to help with expenses each year. Mound Prairie Mutual and Grinnell Mutual believe that well-trained and well-equipped fire departments are a benefit to all of us. They not only save lives and property of those who have accidents and fires, but their efforts also help keep insurance rates down for everyone.
